Description

There's just something about the Behemoth that captures the spirit of the Assault mech'. A viewer can see immediately (more so than the Atlas or other IS designs) that these machines are immense and devastatingly powerful. There are some spheroid assault mechs, such as the Zues and Devastator, that convey this feeling of weight and mass; but the clan designs just LOOk more heavy-duty. The Behemoth/Stone Rhino is the epitome of this heavy duty equipment. With a squat, tank-like torso, fat, clumsy bird legs, and a proportionately tiny cockpit. It's unique aesthetics make it one of my favorite designs.
This particular Behemoth was piloted by the mercenary Sarah Anaval during the Tukayyid mech-rush. Anaval is also an avid hunter of the legendary White Wolf [link] her obsession sparked after being saved from multiple raids on her salvage convoys by the mysterious Mad Cat.
Her Behemoth had been salvaged vitually whole save for the cockpit, which had appeared to have been literally ripped off by a blast from a Comstar AC20 early in the fierce battle. The decapitated corpse of the Behemoth lay virtually unscathed for the remainder of the battle, buried under the wreckage of other mechs that shared its fate. Exactly two weeks after the last Comstar dropship had lifted off of Tukayyid this massive machine was salvaged by Sarah Anaval's rogue mercenary unit and once again made functional. The new head for the Behemoth was provided by Anaval's old Assasin, whose cockpit design is astoundingly similar to that of the Behemoth due to the age of the Star-League-era designs. (they do look somewhat similar [link] and[link])
Using secondary black-box data stores found in the torso, the techs discovered the impressive career of this particular Stone Rhino. It had been originally manufactured by the Smoke Jaguar clan on their home planet of Huntress. Years of Trials of Posession, however, saw the mech pass through the Toumans of Clan Wolf, Clan Diamond Shark, Clan Ghost Bear, Clan Jade Falcon, Clan Blood Spirit, and the Hell's Horses Clan, finally being deployed to Tukayyid by the Nova Cats. All in all this machine had been in service for almost two centuries, a tribute to the Clans' policy on waste and the sheer ruggedness of the design.
